The Trident symbol represents the penultimate letter of the Greek alphabet, psi, and the first letter of the Greek word psuche, meaning mind or soul. Etymologically, the term psyche led to the naming of the discipline of psychology, defined as the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those affecting behavior in a given context.
