About Dr. Deborah Levasseur
Hello and Welcome.
Thank You for Checking Out My Practice.
I’m a Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years of professional experience in the field of psychology targeting anxiety and associated emotional disorders. I worked nearly a decade with combat-era Veterans at several VAMCs across New England (more recently, Associate Chief of the Integrative Pain Care Clinic, Manchester) and have served New Hampshire community residents and health-allied partners (referring clinicians such as Family Medicine and Psychiatry practitioners, other health providers and therapists) approaching two decades in private practice (formerly, Amherst Psychological Services, PLLC).
My theoretical and applied training background is Cognitive Behavioral. I obtained an M.A. and Ph.D. at the State University of New York at Albany Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program followed by a Predoctoral Internship at the Boston VAMC / Tufts New England Medical Center Psychology Internship Consortium in Boston, MA and a Postdoctoral Fellowship within the Behavioral Medicine Section of the Psychiatry Department at Dartmouth Medical School in West Lebanon, NH. All programs were APA-approved and accredited. Licensure: NH, NY.
Throughout my career, I have specialized in the diagnostic assessment and treatment of stress-related disorders within the practical framework of delivering Cognitive Behavioral Therapy services. I have an extensive history of consulting with individuals diagnosed with generalized worry, specific and social phobias, panic attacks and agoraphobia, obsessions and compulsions, post-trauma reactions, depression, and chronic medical problems. I have formulated treatment plans for clients posing varied presentations such as stuttering, hair pulling, managing the dynamics of family, business, divorce, and life coaching, to sample a few.
I offer general and specialty therapy services and Behavioral Medicine (health-related) consultation as well as motivational intervention targeting behavioral modification, habit change, and lifestyle enhancement as well as personal performance optimization. Areas of therapeutic expertise include the following: Anxiety, stress, anger, and mood management; general health, persistent pain, and weight management; mitigating insomnia and other sleep-related disturbances; coping with life challenges such as career transition, the process of aging, personal loss, and other existential concerns; improving work-life balance, mental focus, as well as time, productivity, and organizational management; solidifying other performance outcomes under the rubric of career advancement, educational pursuits, sports-related training, and self-care patterns (e.g., solidifying healthier eating, a routine of exercise, and recreational pursuits).
I enjoy collaborating with individuals who are interested in enhancing personal effectiveness and engineering improved ways of negotiating stressful predicaments and life transitions. Additionally, I offer practical interventions in the area of couples’ work to promote relationship harmony irrespective of relationship status (together, separating, exploring desired outcomes…). I prioritize consult with clients who are interested in planning for, as well as actualizing, bona fide changes in their lives by strategically addressing and overcoming obstacles. My approach to therapy highlights solution-focused methods to resolving symptoms, problems, and perceived dilemmas as well as defining specific goals and a certain pathway for personal evolution. I have a network of professionals across ancillary fields to whom I also routinely refer to get the therapeutic job done collectively.
In terms of therapy delivery, I value employing interventions with known efficacy, efficiency, and specificity (i.e., evidence-based practice, scientist-practitioner model). I also incorporate into practice the principles of Positive Psychology, an established specialty, that highlights folks’ strengths vs. deficits, adaptability to flourish and promote grit, as well as mind-body-spirit well being. I believe that every person is capable of, and responsible for, personal behavior change and holistic balance. Life satisfaction, adaptability, and achievement motivation are founded upon one’s capacity to carve personal meaning, learn via practice to enhance skillsets, meet integral commitments, nurture important relationships and other treasured objects, develop hobbies and passions, as well as amplify hope, willful proactivity, flexibility, innovativeness, and creativity. Therapy offers the potential to augment these important elements of living life to your fullest.
My personal joie de vivre is strongly fueled by companionship with a cherished husband, beloved pup, equine partners, family and close relationship ties, as well as creative outlets and athletic adventures (equestrian sport, mountain biking, personal training, etc.). Passion for the work is derived from the grand pleasure of being witness to tangible outcomes among clients who are open to the therapeutic process. I take delight in the positive impacts upon people who share their core values, ideas, and aspects of their private lives relevant to meeting their stated personal goals. I welcome the opportunity to collaborate with You in the context of taking stock of your top reasons for wanting to be doing better, being better, living better.
